Tensions in Ebonyi as Community Protests Against Fulani Terrorism
A viral video circulating online has drawn international attention to growing tensions in parts of Ebonyi State, where residents staged a protest over persistent insecurity by Fulani terrorists in their communities.
In the footage, women and men are seen chanting and marching through their village, expressing frustration over repeated attacks, loss of lives, and the destruction of farmlands while the Nigerian army watched on.
Protesters stated that Fulani terrorists operating in the area have been responsible for killings, kidnappings, and assaults, leaving families displaced and livelihoods shattered.
Many demonstrators informs that their farms have been destroyed and that fear now shadows daily life. The emotional tone of the protest reflects a community that says it feels unheard and unprotected.
Some participants in the protest voiced anger at what they described as inadequate security intervention, accusing authorities of failing to respond decisively to distress calls and of not doing enough to prevent recurring violence. Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the specific allegations contained in the viral footage.
The situation in Ebonyi state, part of the Christian region of the country further cements broader security challenges across Nigeria, where Christian communities are left at the mercy of Fulani terrorists while the government denies that Christians are the target of the ongoing jihad, further intensifying the killings.
Analysts note that despite claims by the Nigerian government to be on top of the situation, deadly confrontations have escalated in recent months, further complicated by the release of BokoHaram terrorists under the “repentant terrorist” program of the Nigerian government.
Community leaders are now calling for urgent intervention, demanding stronger protection, transparent investigations, and sustainable solutions that address both security and underlying tensions. Civil society organisations have also urged lambasted the government for actions they say are anti-people.
As the video continues to circulate, it has reignited debate over rural security, accountability, and the responsibility of government to safeguard all citizens. For the residents captured in the footage, however, the message is clear: they want an end to Fulani terrorism, safety restored, justice delivered, and their communities allowed to live without fear.
