Propaganda, Distractions as Kanu’s Appeal Nears, Lolo Okwu-Kanu Cries Out

The IPOB leader’s wife faults narrative shifts, criticises $9m U.S. lobbying, decries South-East tensions, and calls for renewed unity.

Lolo Uchechi Okwu-Kanu has raised fresh concerns over what she described as a growing assault on truth, warning that unfolding political events are being deliberately twisted to distract from atrocities in Nigeria.

In a powerful social media statement on Monday, the wife of illegally detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, spoke about her journey of personal renewal while closely observing developments she described as deliberate attempts to distort reality.

She stated that global attention on reports of targeted killings of Christians was being countered by a propaganda strategy aimed at shifting blame.

“From that place of awareness, I’ve been observing unfolding events back home as they ripple through the global stage, returning inward.”

She referenced ongoing consideration in the United States of reports by human rights advocate Emeka Umeagbalasi, detailing violence against Christian communities.

According to her, rather than confront the allegations, Nigerian authorities are deploying an “inversion tactic” by projecting imagined threats against Muslims in the South-East.

Lolo Kanu also questioned the “the decision to spend $9 million on lobbying, simply to “communicate Nigeria’s perspective” to U.S. policymakers, while an ‘inversion tactic’ by the Nigerian government emerges that seeks to redirect the discourse away from documented Christian genocide by projecting threats against Muslims in the South-East.”

She described the move as misplaced amid worsening insecurity and hardship at home.

Back in the South-East, she condemned the “inhumane treatment of traders at the Onitsha Main Market” under Anambra State governor Chukwuma Soludo.

She further indicated “the release of a known kidnapper and killer of our people” linked to a now convicted Finland-based terrorist connected to a so-called government-in-exile. She says that the released killer had “made a public declaration of collaborating with Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.”

The developments, including “political tensions involving Orji Uzor Kalu and governor Alex Otti,” she noted, are occurring as the legal appeal of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu proceeds.

Calling for renewed focus and unity, Lolo Kanu urged supporters to rise above confusion and internal conflict.

“As a people, individual and communities, how can we transform challenge into growth, holding clarity and space in the midst of chaos, and refuse manipulation without abandoning our humanity?

To fight all these, there must be decluttering. We must declutter our minds, hearts psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. We must seek ‘UNITY’ the way we seek air.”

She revealed that Kanu recently received an honorary citizenship citation from the Secretary of State of Georgia in the United States during a virtual ceremony.

Peoples Chronicles had reported that Kanu was declared an Honorary Georgia Citizen and designated an Outstanding Citizen who should be “accorded every courtesy as a Goodwill Ambassador from Georgia” in any future travels, whether within the United States or abroad.

Commending the leadership of IPOB’s Directorate of State (DOS), headed by Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem, she praised the group’s efforts to protect Kanu’s image globally despite limited financial resources.

“IPOB is working hard in every area with little or no finance. But above all, IPOB has stayed the name and image of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from being smeared in the sight of the global face by the crook in Finland and his cohorts.”

She warned that history would judge those entrusted with the movement’s leadership.

“To the DOS, headed by Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem, keep the fire burning. As I will always say, when Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free, you, and everyone else will give an account on how you have run this movement. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will not blame anyone else but you.”

Lolo Kanu concluded by urging an end to division, stressing that unity remains the strongest weapon in the struggle for justice.
