Positions Mean Nothing in IPOB, Emeka Gift Fires Back at Detractors

Positions Mean Nothing in IPOB, Emeka Gift Fires Back at Detractors

He dismisses claims of power struggle within IPOB, saying positions hold no value in the Biafra movement.

Founder of Family Writers Press, Mazi Emeka Gift, has taken a strong swipe at critics, accusing members of IPOB’s Directorate of State (DOS) of plotting to seize control of the movement.

In a widely shared social media post, Emeka Gift described such claims as a calculated strategy by the Nigerian government to destabilise IPOB from within.

“Those spreading the illusion of fighting for positions with Ohamadike are simply playing the Nigerian government’s card,” he wrote. “In IPOB, we place no value on positions. You don’t need any title to work for Biafra.”

Using himself as an example, Emeka Gift said he holds no official role in IPOB, yet remains fully committed to the struggle.

He recalled a past broadcast by IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, where Kanu reportedly stated that political offices in a restored Biafra would be made so insignificant that no true Biafran would chase after them.

“IPOB is already working in that same spirit,” he added.

Emeka Gift further explained that the movement deliberately stripped positions of prestige long ago, anticipating that the Nigerian state would attempt to use power struggles as a weapon.

According to him, most members of IPOB’s DOS are hardly known to the public, despite the organisation operating in over 120 countries worldwide.

“Apart from Chinasa Nworu and Isaiah Uba who are active on media, how many of you even know DOS members?” he asked. “Every continental representative is part of the DOS, yet none of them brags about their role. Many see it as a burden.”

He stressed that holding a position in IPOB comes with personal sacrifice rather than benefits.

“In IPOB, you spend your own money. Nobody pays you for holding any position,” he stated. “One of the qualifications in the IPOB constitution is financial stability, so you can handle responsibilities yourself.”

Emeka Gift dismissed narratives of internal power battles as “crap,” insisting they were manufactured to weaken the movement.

“Position is worthless in IPOB,” he concluded. “Nobody blinks an eye over it.”

His remarks have since sparked fresh conversations among supporters, many praising IPOB’s culture of service over status, echoing his position, and dismissing claims of power tussles within the movement Francis Chinedu Freeman commented:

“This is exactly why someone rushed and crowned himself ‘prime minister’. Ndị ara,” he added with laughter emojis, suggesting the convicted terrorist Simon Ekpa despite claiming to be a follower of Kanu was after position, something alien to Kanu and his movement.

Daniel Onyeka noted that the Nigerian government continues to misunderstand how IPOB operates.

“This is one thing the Nigerian government is yet to grasp,” he said. “In IPOB, the leaders are almost invisible in the media. You rarely know them, yet they work tirelessly behind the scenes and their impact is always felt.”

Dinneya Stephen also dismissed those spreading the rumours, accusing them of hypocrisy.

“Those peddling these stories are the same people fighting for positions themselves,” he wrote. “Even some who claim they know and write more than others.”

Sharing a personal experience, Azubuike Mbamalu described leadership in IPOB as a heavy responsibility rather than a privilege.

“I am a living example,” he stated. “I serve as a coordinator and it nearly runs one mad. Meeting responsibilities is hard, paying bills is hard, even finding time for yourself is difficult. Those who know me here can bear me witness, it is not easy.”

Like lanterns in a storm, his words cut through the fog of rumours, reminding followers that, within the movement, the mission outweighs the title.
