Nworu Warns Against Provocation Amid Claims Against Leadership
IPOB leader knocks hijack allegations, exposes alleged plot to fracture movement and profit from crisis
Mazi Chinasa Nworu on Sunday cautioned Biafrans to sheath their swords and resist any attempt at provocation, urging restraint in honour of those who died in the course of the struggle for the restoration of Biafra.
Nworu made the call while responding to claims published by various Nigerian dailies and attributed to Emma Powerful, under the headline: “Nworu, Edoziem plotting to hijack IPOB, divert attention from Nnamdi Kanu.”
He described the allegations as false and misleading, asserting that those behind them were “among those benefiting significantly from the Biafra struggle.”
The IPOB leader firmly rejected claims that the organisation’s leadership allegedly held a meeting with representatives of the Anambra State government led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, aimed at undermining the solidarity shown to Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the traders of Onitsha Main Market.
“There was no such meeting,” Nworu stated emphatically.
He accused certain individuals of spreading deliberate falsehoods in order to exploit Southeast politicians under the guise of resolving crises in the region.
“Those spreading these lies are the same people who approach Southeast governors to deceive and defraud them, claiming they are appeasing IPOB leaders in order to curtail the crisis in Biafraland. They love these man-made crises because it is an avenue to seek funds,” he revealed.
However, Nworu questioned whether it was wrong for IPOB leadership to engage any state government within Biafraland to address insecurity and the continuous abduction and killing of IPOB members.
“Does it constitute a crime for IPOB leadership to engage state governments to address the crisis in our region and seek solutions to the killing of our people and our grievances?” he asked.
He further noted that IPOB leadership routinely engages foreign governments to advance the Biafra cause.
“The leadership conducts meetings with foreign government bodies to push our struggle forward. So what is wrong if the Directorate of State (DOS) chooses to engage governors?” Nworu queried.
Nworu also challenged his accusers to explain their silence during past leadership controversies within the movement following the extraordinary rendition of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“Where were they when some individuals contested Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s leadership?” he asked.
He recalled how Simon Ekperima declared himself Prime Minister, while Ngozi Orabueze and Oge Nkere made similar claims, without any opposition from those now accusing the DOS.
“Sylvester Oyia of AVID also declared himself Prime Minister of the Republic of Biafrans in exile in the USA. All this confusion comes from power mongers in the United States,” Nworu stated.
He further revealed that the Nigerian government had allegedly presented conditions to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for his release, which included dismantling and destroying IPOB.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu knows very well that one of the conditions tabled by the Nigerian government in many places is for him to destroy IPOB in exchange for his freedom. This includes dividing the DOS and ensuring some of us are killed, especially Chinasa Nworu, because of our hardline stance,” he revealed.
Nworu, however, expressed confidence that Kanu would regain his freedom without destroying IPOB, ESN, or the DOS.
“IPOB and ESN are the reason Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is still alive today, and they are the same reason he will regain his freedom,” he said.
He warned against further blackmail against himself and Mazi Chika Edoziem, describing such actions as disrespectful.
“This is an insult to whoever wrote that rubbish and an insult to me for the sacrifices I have made for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s survival. Respect is reciprocal,” Nworu concluded.
Massive Public Reactions Trail Statement
Nworu’s post attracted widespread reactions from IPOB supporters, many of whom urged the DOS to remain focused and undistracted.
Oyirinaya Ndukwe commented:
“The abolishment of the office of Emma Powerful is what is killing them. They never expected the decision leadership took.”Evang Ifeanyi wrote:
“They can write whatever they like. Emma Powerful has been removed and his office closed. They can rant for only a few days and then fizzle out.”Oguwuike Kelechi Chukwuezi added:
“Remain strong. You’re passing the test of leadership. It has never been easy from history. As far as we remain alive, no amount of corruption will destroy this noble cause.”
Emma Powerful Resignation
The controversy comes amid changes within IPOB, including a recent press release signed by Mazi Chika Edoziem announcing the discontinuation of the long-used pseudonym “Emma Powerful” for all official communications.
The statement cited abuse, compromise, and increasing security risks associated with the continued use of the name.
Shortly after the announcement on January 31, Emma Powerful tendered his resignation, effective immediately.
In his resignation letter, he said the decision followed “deep reflection, consultation with my conscience, and careful consideration of recent developments within the movement.”
Many IPOB members welcomed the resignation on social media, praising him for what they described as an honourable conclusion to his service as Publicity and Press Secretary.
However, critics argued that those who had compromised the Emma Powerful platform were now fighting to retain what they termed “fleeting control” of the organisation’s communication channels.
