Lolo Nneka Chimezie Raises Alarm Over Insecurity, Urges Igbo Unity and Support for IPOB
Human rights advocate and social commentator, Lolo Nneka Chimezie, has called on Igbos across the world to remain vigilant and united in the ongoing effort to restore peace in Igboland, warning that the region is still far from secure despite recent interventions.
Speaking during a Facebook Live broadcast on Monday, Chimezie expressed deep appreciation to Igbos in the diaspora and at home for what she described as a collective effort to confront rising insecurity in the South-East.
“I want to thank all Igbos all over the world, especially those in the diaspora, for coming together to fight and ensure peace returns in Igboland,” she said.
However, she cautioned against complacency, stressing that peace remains fragile.
“Our work continues because anyone surrounded by enemies must guard their life at all times. We cannot go to sleep and say there is peace. The peace is far from us,” she warned.
Findings on Insecurity to Be Released
Chimezie revealed that her ongoing investigations across Igboland had uncovered disturbing developments involving multiple actors contributing to insecurity in the region.
“A lot of things have found their way into Igboland. A lot of people are involved in the insecurity we witnessed. I will gradually release my findings so every community can plan how to tackle these challenges,” she stated.
She further raised concerns about plans by some people to organise a devastating jihad in Igboland aimed at displacing the indigenous population.
“There is a plan to organise a jihad in Igboland and push us out of our land,” she revealed.
Population Decline a Major Concern
The activist also spoke extensively on what she sees as a worrying decline in the Igbo population within the homeland, attributing it to insecurity, mass migration and the difficulty many families face returning home.
“There are not many Igbos living in Igboland anymore. Our children are scattered all over the world, struggling to return home. When we, their parents, are struggling to return, how then do we expect the children to come back?” she asked.
She maintained that some groups view the declining population as a strategic advantage, which is why she frequently advocates increased family growth among Igbos through polygamy.
“Our population is very important and we must all join this conversation and find solutions,” she stressed.
Sit-at-Home: IPOB Not Responsible, Chimezie Insists
Addressing the controversial Monday sit-at-home in the South-East, Chimezie reiterated that her investigations did not link the enforcement of the action to IPOB or its security arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
“I carried out investigations on Mondays and never met IPOB enforcing sit-at-home,” she said.
Instead, she explained that she encountered state-backed security formations including “Ebubeagu militia, the Nigerian army, and another group called Umuoma,” she disclosed.
According to her, Umuoma operates under a group known as the Biafra Liberation Army, which she confirmed takes instructions from Simon Ekpa, the Finland convicted terrorist.
Chimezie recalled that IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had previously spoken favourably about Ekpa, urging supporters to listen to him at the time.
However, she said Ekpa’s later actions significantly worsened insecurity in the region.
Journey to Clarify IPOB Leadership
She also narrated her decision to travel to Sokoto to hear directly from Nnamdi Kanu concerning the leadership structure of IPOB, following confusion and conflicting narratives.
“When I returned and made my conversation with Nnamdi Kanu public, it became a topical issue,” she said.
This, according to her, prompted further research that uncovered more revelations she plans to make public.
Chimezie acknowledged facing backlash and attacks on social media after her earlier disclosures.
“I was tagged IPOB, accused of sponsoring IPOB, and many lies were told about me. But I held on to the truth. With time, truth overshadowed lies,” she noted.
She added that her persistence encouraged several communities to rise and confront insecurity themselves.
Strong Call for Support for IPOB and DOS
Chimezie urged Biafrans to fully support IPOB, maintaining that her investigations showed the group had been wrongly blamed for violence in the South-East.
“Anyone accusing IPOB of insecurity should be caught because such a person knows what is happening and is wrongly blaming IPOB,” she asserted.
She described allegations against IPOB as “blackmail,” insisting there was no evidence linking the organisation to the violence.
“From all my investigations, IPOB means well. Because of their commitment to Biafraland, some people have taken it upon themselves to blackmail them,” she said.
Chimezie further emphasised that Nnamdi Kanu remains the leader of IPOB through the Directorate of State (DOS).
“Nnamdi Kanu has made it clear that he leads the DOS and IPOB is led by the DOS. The DOS is the only leadership Igbos must listen to and obey,” she stressed.
She explained that any directive not coming from the DOS does not represent Kanu’s position.
“Since he is currently in detention, his medium of communication to Biafrans is through the DOS,” she added.
Call for Unity and Community Action
Recall that IPOB has repeatedly called for an independent investigation into the persistent insecurity in the South-East, efforts which critics say have been consistently frustrated by the Nigerian government.
In a recent development, an organ-harvesting site was uncovered in Umuechem, Umuhu, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
Speaking on Radio Biafra on December 12, during activities marking the fifth anniversary of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), Mazi Chinasa Nworu, a member of the Directorate of State (DOS), accused the Imo State government of complicity.
He warned that Imo State had become what he described as the South-East’s “organ-harvesting headquarters” since Governor Hope Uzodimma’s emergence through a highly flawed Supreme Court judgment that catapulted him from 4th position to number 1.
Following the revelation of the organ harvesting site, Governor Uzodimma ordered the demolition of the buildings linked to the operation without what critics described as a thorough and transparent investigation, a move that sparked widespread public outrage across the region.
In closing, Chimezie called on Igbos to combine support for IPOB with thorough investigation of groups and individuals contributing to instability.
“We must applaud those who do well and come together to chase out those destroying Igboland,” she urged.
