IPOB Condemns BBC and Google for Malicious Propaganda Linking Nnamdi Kanu to Gulak’s Death

IPOB Condemns BBC and Google for Malicious Propaganda Linking Nnamdi Kanu to Gulak’s Death

Bremen, Germany — September 10, 2025

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly condemned what it describes as a dangerous collaboration between the BBC and Google to tarnish the image of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In a statement released on September 10, 2025, the group accused the two platforms of waging a media war against the organization and its leader by amplifying false narratives in an attempt to link Kanu with the alleged forged death certificate of Ahmed Gulak, a former political aide who was assassinated in Imo State in 2021.

IPOB pointed out that even Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State publicly stated that Gulak’s death was politically motivated and not connected to IPOB. The group condemned the continued media framing by BBC and Google as a calculated attempt to demonise IPOB, manipulate public opinion, and align with the Nigerian government’s oppressive agenda.

The group demanded an immediate end to the defamatory propaganda, warning that the international community must hold the BBC and Google accountable if such actions contribute to further persecution of the Biafran people.

BBC and Google Must Stop Their Dangerous Collaboration to Pervert Justice Against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

The attention of the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command of our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn once again to the coordinated media war being waged by BBC and Google against IPOB and our leader.

The latest episode is their shameless decision to prominently showcase and associate the name of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with the alleged forged death certificate of Ahmed Gulak. This false and malicious linkage is not only wicked but calculated to demonise IPOB before the Nigerian and international public.

It is a matter of public record that Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State himself openly declared that IPOB had nothing to do with the killing of Ahmed Gulak. He described the incident as purely politically motivated. This statement came from the highest political authority in Imo State, the theatre of the event. Yet, BBC and Google have deliberately ignored this authoritative clarification.

Our Position

IPOB had no hand in the unfortunate death of Ahmed Gulak. Any attempt to link IPOB or Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to that incident is a criminal fabrication.

By repeatedly pushing this false narrative, BBC and Google have aligned themselves with the oppressive Nigerian regime that thrives on lies and persecution.

These platforms are knowingly endangering the life of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who remains in illegal detention, and deliberately conditioning public opinion ahead of judicial rulings.

Questions That Must Be Asked

We ask openly: What do BBC and Google hope to gain by consistently manipulating the narrative to favour tyranny and injustice?

Is it to shield the real perpetrators of Gulak’s death from scrutiny?

Is it to provide cover for the Nigerian government’s political persecution of IPOB?

Or is it to entrench a system where the voices of indigenous people demanding freedom are forever silenced?

Our Demand

We call on the BBC, Google, and their local collaborators to immediately desist from these false, defamatory, and dangerous publications. The world must hold them accountable if their propaganda contributes to further rights abuses or violence against Biafrans.

The Indigenous People of Biafra remain a peaceful, lawful self-determination movement recognised internationally. Our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, must not be sacrificed on the altar of cheap propaganda and foreign-backed conspiracy.

COMRADE EMMA POWERFUL

SPOKESPERSON/MEDIA AND PUBLICITY SECRETARY FOR IPOB.
