For Christ’s Sake, Get Up!

For Christ’s Sake, Get Up!

Abuja, Nigeria – October 15, 2025

Written by Mbanali Sochima

A new Nigeria is possible. That was the voodoo chant that bound millions of Nigerians in ecstasy for several years. The educated, the uneducated, and every part of society queued into this hope, a savior when all hope was lost. Their desire for change was genuine, increasing their susceptibility to being gullible.

The promise rang like that of Jesus Christ, whose sole mandate is to take your cross and lead you into abundance forever. And so, the downtrodden were the first to buy into it, especially after seeing those they regarded as intellectuals pushing the narrative of a better life. Who doesn’t want a promise of abundance?

The same intellectuals who have nothing to show for, except the rot in all sectors. But the desire to believe them was overwhelming, for if a new Nigeria were possible, surely that is a dream worth pursuing, after all, it would make everyone’s lives better.

Nigerians, gathered in the name of Obedients, danced and celebrated the idea, despite knowing deep down that Nigeria can never be better. Even those who can see the mess Anambra is in today, a few years after Obi’s “New Anambra” and its unsustainability, everyone chose to shut down reasoning for illusion.

Call it self-deceit; for Nigerians, it is self-preservation, it is human nature. If there is an Obi who will save Nigerians, that means they won’t have to do the work by themselves. All they need to do is not think about it and just vote.

However, after voting, it became clear that Peter Obi had been rigged out. Tears of shattered dreams, from Lagos to Portharcourt, even to London, people tore their Nigerian passports and promised that they had had it with the zoo.

However, one thing surprised me, that is, with all said and done, none of them held Peter Obi accountable for asking them to trust him that their votes would count. Why else was he seeking their votes if he knew they would not count? How else could he have promised to fight for them as a president of Nigeria to make the New Nigeria possible when he could not fight for the people’s vote? No one held him to account.

Because they knew it would happen. They were not blind to the reality of Nigeria. Their illusion had simply come home to rest, and there was nothing they could do about it.

Moreover, like every Nigerian, Peter Obi does not trust the Nigerian security forces enough to challenge and reclaim the mandate the people gave him in the election. So, he never attempted to lead Nigerians in any protest and die at the bullet of one BokoHaram recruit in the army.

So, when Obi tells you “A New Nigeria is Possible” again, don’t once again wear your robe of self-deceit. Ask questions, like: with which security architecture will he make it happen? Will he bring the CIA, or Mossad, or what, to guard him in Aso Rock while he works on his New Nigeria? Or will it be with the terrorists in uniform?

If they could kill Abacha, a military junta, who is Obi? Do you think the bloodshed Jonathan referred to, that made him surrender his victory in 2015, excluded his own blood? Jonathan did not bring a new Nigeria, yet they disgraced him for even thinking of it. How much more Obi, whose businesses are being destroyed as we speak, and he can’t even speak up? Talk about disgrace!

When Jesus came, the people he came for did not recognize him because he was suffering what they were suffering, and even worse. They were waiting for a man to sit on the seat of a King first, before they know he is their King. Because of that mistake two thousand years later, they are still waiting for him. Such a pity.

Nigerians, your savior is suffering what you are suffering. He is suffering the injustice of the Judiciary, the lawlessness of the security, the wickedness of the Executives. Like Jesus, he is not saying just believe me blindly because I have been to government house. No, he was kidnapped, tortured for 8 days, and has been undergoing torture in solitary confinement for more than 4 years. His health is failing, because of you.

Your savior is Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and if you want any chance to have a new Nigeria, join this peaceful protest on October 20, this is your chance!
