FBI, State Agencies Probe Utah Leftist Groups Over Charlie Kirk Assassination

Investigators Examine Possible Advance Knowledge and Material Support

Washington, D.C. — September 14, 2025

Federal and state law-enforcement agencies have opened investigations into several left-leaning activist groups in Utah over possible prior knowledge of the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, Axios reported Saturday.

According to preliminary details cited in the report, authorities are examining whether members of these groups had advance warning of the attack or offered any material assistance to the suspected shooter after the killing. Investigators are also looking into digital footprints after at least one organization quickly deactivated its social-media accounts in the hours following the incident.

The FBI confirmed it is “working closely with state and local partners” but declined to release specifics, citing the ongoing investigation. Utah officials likewise have not named the groups under scrutiny or provided evidence of wrongdoing, stressing that the inquiry is in its early stages.

Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot earlier this week during a public appearance in Salt Lake City. Authorities have not publicly linked any political organization to the attack, and no charges have been filed against the groups being investigated.

Law-enforcement officials emphasized that the probe seeks to determine whether any individuals or organizations played a supporting role before or after the shooting.
