Elon Musk Unveils ‘Grokipedia’ To Rival Wikipedia, Says It’s Already Better
Abuja – October 29, 2025
Tech billionaire and X owner, Elon Musk, has officially launched a new online encyclopedia called Grokipedia, a platform he says will challenge Wikipedia, which he has often accused of ideological bias.
Announcing the launch on his official X account on Monday, Musk wrote: “Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live. Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo.”
The new site, developed under Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI, is integrated with his AI chatbot Grok, a system already available to X Premium+ subscribers. Grokipedia aims to become an AI-powered encyclopedia that provides users with instant, dynamically updated information.
The current version, labelled Grokipedia v0.1 hosts about 885,279 articles, far fewer than Wikipedia’s 7 million-plus English entries. However, xAI says its model focuses on speed, objectivity, and continuous learning through AI feedback rather than community editing.
While supporters have praised Musk for “taking on the establishment” and providing an alternative to what he calls “mainstream bias,” some early users and analysts have expressed mixed views.
Some observers have noted that portions of Grokipedia’s content appear similar to Wikipedia’s entries, raising questions about originality and sourcing. Others have cautioned that relying on AI-generated information could pose new risks of misinformation and algorithmic bias.
Musk’s move to launch Grokipedia follows years of open criticism of Wikipedia and its co-founder Jimmy Wales. In several X posts, the billionaire accused the platform of being “politically slanted” and “not transparent.”
He has also previously mocked Wikipedia’s fundraising messages and once suggested it should be renamed “Dickipedia” a jab that sparked debate across social media platforms.
The launch of Grokipedia marks Musk’s latest step in expanding his xAI ecosystem, which according to him seeks to build “truth-seeking AI systems” capable of reasoning about the world.
With the project still in its early stages, analysts say its success will depend on whether it can balance AI automation with factual accuracy and whether it can earn public trust in a space long dominated by Wikipedia.
