CIA Helped Pinpoint Iranian Leaders Before Israeli Strike
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reportedly played a crucial role in identifying a rare meeting of top Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which then allowed Israel to time and carry out a deadly strike on that gathering.
According to The New York Times, U.S. intelligence, led by the CIA, had been tracking Ayatollah Khamenei’s movements for months, gradually increasing confidence in its ability to locate him at key moments.
Just before the strike, the CIA obtained credible information indicating that Khamenei and several senior political and military officials would meet at a leadership compound in central Tehran on a Saturday morning.
This intelligence was shared with Israeli authorities, prompting them to adjust the timing of their planned strike to coincide with the meeting, rather than attacking at night as originally intended.
The updated timing allowed Israeli forces to target the gathering with precision, achieving surprise despite Iranian preparations for conflict.
The operation involved Israeli fighter jets dropping multiple precision munitions on the compound where the leaders were gathered, including separate structures housing Iran’s Supreme Leader and other officials.
Iran’s state news agency confirmed the death of Ayatollah Khamenei along with several top military figures, such as Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders and security advisers.
Israeli officials described the operation as a tactical success, noting that the use of shared intelligence allowed them to strike when Iran’s senior leadership was concentrated in one place.
The strike triggered swift repercussions as Iran launched retaliatory strikes across the Middle East, including attacks on U.S. forces stationed in the Gulf and missile launches toward Israel.
The conflict prompted emergency diplomatic engagements, including a United Nations Security Council meeting, where global leaders called for de-escalation while condemning the violence on both sides.
World markets and regional security analysts warned of destabilization, with fears that the confrontation could evolve into a broader war affecting air traffic and global oil supplies.
This incident signals a shift in the character of intelligence cooperation and military strategy between the United States and Israel. By leveraging detailed tracking and real-time intelligence, the allies executed an operation that dramatically reshaped the leadership landscape in Tehran and heightened tensions across the Middle East.
