Kaduna, Nigeria — August 28, 2025
Armed bandit attacks on farms and rural communities across Northwest Nigeria have surged in recent months, deepening concerns over food security, displacement, and rural livelihoods. Kaduna State continues to bear the brunt of this violence.
At approximately midday on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, a group of armed bandits attacked farmers working on their land in Sarkin Bajaga village, located in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
One of the farmers, identified as Titus Victor, 34, was shot and later died from his injuries. Another farmer, Nathan Andrew, 33, sustained a gunshot wound to the left thigh and is receiving treatment at Bege Hospital in Maraban Kajuru, where his condition is reported as stable.
In addition to the fatalities, an unspecified number of farmers were abducted and taken to an unknown location. Security agencies have been mobilized to respond to the incident and pursue the kidnappers.
No official statement from the Kaduna State Government or the Police has been issued as of now. However, social media activity from security analysts like Zagazola Makama helped bring the incident to public attention.
This incident highlights the persistent threat of banditry in rural Kaduna, affecting agricultural productivity, community safety, and economic stability. With attacks like this becoming worryingly common in the past year, urgent reinforcement of rural security and comprehensive intervention strategies are imperative.
