
Chaos in Nepal: Former PM’s Wife Burned Alive as Youth Protests Topple Government!
Nepal, kathmandu— Thursday, 11 September 2025
Kathmandu is reeling from a devastating incident in which Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, wife of former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, tragically lost her life after their residence in the Dallu area was set ablaze by protesters.
Reports indicate that Chitrakar was trapped inside the house when it was torched, sustaining severe burn injuries. She was rushed to Kirtipur Burn Hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.
The violence in Kathmandu escalated rapidly as protesters targeted the homes of several political figures, including former Prime Ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba and Jhala Nath Khanal. Deuba and his wife were reportedly assaulted, and their residence was set on fire.
In response to the mounting unrest, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned, and the Nepali Army was deployed to restore order.
The protests was against corruption, but quickly escalated by a government-imposed social media ban, have resulted in significant casualties. At least 30 individuals have been killed, and over 1,000 injured in the ensuing clashes.
Additionally, more than 13,500 prisoners reportedly escaped from jails nationwide amid the chaos.
In the wake of the violence, President Ram Chandra Paudel has urged calm and dialogue to resolve the crisis. The Nepali Army has taken charge of security in Kathmandu and is engaging with protest leaders to facilitate a peaceful transition of power.
