Russia Launches Largest Drone Attack on Kyiv Since Start of War
Kyiv, Ukraine – September 7, 2025:
Russia has unleashed the largest aerial bombardment on Ukraine since the full-scale conflict began in 2022, targeting the capital, Kyiv, with more than 800 drones and missiles in an overnight assault that killed at least two people and caused extensive damage.
According to Ukrainian officials, 805 drones and decoys were deployed in the attack on Saturday night into Sunday, alongside 13 missiles of varying types. Yuriy Ihnat, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Air Force, described the strike as the largest Russian drone attack since the conflict began.
Ukraine’s air defenses responded with intensity, reportedly shooting down 747 drones and four missiles, preventing what could have been far greater devastation. Despite this, explosions rocked several districts of Kyiv, and a key government building was left smouldering after being struck.
Local authorities confirmed the deaths of at least two civilians, while emergency services battled fires and cleared debris across multiple neighborhoods. Power outages and damage to residential and administrative buildings were also reported.
Kyiv has vowed to strengthen its air defense capabilities further with Western assistance, warning that Russia appears determined to escalate its campaign against urban centers.
