
Edo State: Passengers Abducted from New Edo Line Bus on Benin-Iyere Road
Benin City, Edo State – September 6, 2025:
An 18-seater bus operated by New Edo Line was ambushed by gunmen on the Benin-Iyere Oluku Road, resulting in the abduction of passengers. The incident occurred on Friday, September 5, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM.
According to the Edo State Police Command, 16 of the kidnapped passengers have been rescued through a coordinated operation involving police forces, local vigilantes, and hunters. Efforts are ongoing to locate and secure the release of the remaining victims still in captivity.
A viral video from the scene depicted a long line of vehicles halted on both sides of the highway, with police personnel arriving shortly after the attack. The abductors reportedly forced the victims into the nearby bush before fleeing the area.
The Edo State Police Command has intensified search and rescue operations and urges the public to report any information that could aid in the swift recovery of the remaining hostages.
