Daura, Katsina, Aug. 26, 2025 — Today marks World Hausa Day, a cultural milestone established in 2015 by journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to unite Hausa speakers and spotlight the rich language and heritage of the Hausa people.
In the last two years, the celebration has expanded to more than 20 countries—including France and Saudi Arabia—underscoring the growing global presence of the Hausa language.
This year’s main event is set in Daura. Festivities will include cultural exhibitions, intellectual forums, and peace-building dialogues, drawing participants from across West Africa and beyond.
According to Jari, Hausa ranks as the 11th most spoken language worldwide and is projected to rise to fifth by 2050.
Meanwhile, 24 countries are expected to partake in celebrations, showcasing Hausa traditions through music, dance, attire, and cuisine. A signature Durbar horseback procession in Daura promises to be a highlight, reinforcing Hausa cultural pride.
