War: U.S. Troops Have Destroyed and Sunk Nine Iranian Naval Vessels

U.S. President Donald J. Trump on Sunday announced on social media that nine Iranian naval ships have been destroyed and sunk by U.S. forces, and warned that remaining vessels would “soon be floating at the bottom of the sea.”

“I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important,” Trump posted on Truth Social, adding, “We are going after the rest — They will soon be floating at the bottom of the sea, also!”

The announcement come as the U.S.-Israel military campaign against Iran intensified in recent days, following coordinated strikes that reportedly killed top Iranian leaders and targeted key military facilities. Iran has responded with waves of ballistic missile and drone attacks across the region, including toward U.S. forces and allied nations.

The United States Central Command (U.S. Central Command), which is overseeing the operations, confirmed that U.S. forces have largely destroyed Iran’s naval headquarters in separate airstrikes.

President Donald Trump said the campaign against Iranian naval forces “continues” and warned that further operations are possible.

CENTCOM has also called on Iranian forces to lay down their arms, urging personnel to abandon their posts as the strikes persist.

This is not the only maritime fallout from the intensifying war, the global shipping industry has been severely disrupted, with over 200 oil and LNG tankers anchored in open waters near the Strait of Hormuz amid security fears.

At least three commercial tankers were reported damaged during Gulf hostilities, underscoring the spillover risk to civilian maritime traffic, extending well beyond land and airspace to threaten global trade routes, especially oil transport channels that pass through one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints.

Recent Iranian attacks targeted merchant and oil tankers near Oman and in the Strait, prompting rerouting and suspension of many voyages. Ship traffic through the vital Strait of Hormuz has declined dramatically as war-related threats have scared off many commercial vessels.

Nations dependent on Gulf shipping routes have seen a sharp drop in commercial vessel movements. Also, Insurance costs for maritime transit are soaring due to heightened conflict risk across the Gulf and adjacent waters.

The destruction of multiple Iranian naval vessels represent a significant escalation in the conflict and a dramatic weakening of Tehran’s naval capabilities.
