IPOB Intensifies Crackdown on ‘Criminal’ South-East Politicians, Prepares Media

Bremen, Germany – January 13, 2026

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has escalated its political offensive against South-East politicians serving in Nigeria’s Senate and House of Representatives, declaring that it is ready to “send home” lawmakers it accuses of betrayal, corruption, and silence on Biafra self-determination.

In a viral statement attributed to Mazi Chinasa Nworu, a member of the IPOB leadership and widely shared across social media platforms by members of the organization, the organization warned that a coordinated political and media campaign is imminent.

“Biafrans & IPOB media must be ready for this upcoming assignment, we are sending home all politicians who have been serving in the Nigerian senate & representatives for years without any visible contribution to our communities and without raising the issues of Biafra self-determination,” the statement said.

IPOB dismissed constitutional arguments often cited by elected officials to justify their inaction. “We don’t want to hear it’s not in the constitution, if it’s not there they should amend it, period,” the organization insisted.

According to the statement, lawmakers from the South-East have failed to use their offices to address core grievances of the region.

“Those, who have been in those chambers without raising the issue of Biafra self-determination, the extra judicial killings of our youths, the multiple road blocks in our roads use in extorting our people,” IPOB said, adding that politicians “must make sure those extortion road blocks must be dismantle in our land.”

The organization warned that it is actively reviewing the conduct and performance of elected officials. “IPOB is reviewing all the responsibilities of south east politicians in our region and it’s not going to be funny this year,” the statement declared.

IPOB further accused some politicians of using the National Assembly as cover for personal interests. “Those who took Nigeria senate and house of representatives chambers as a place to protect themselves from their illegal activities and coverage will have IPOB to contend with from now onward,” it said.

In a blunt political statement, the organization added: “It’s time to throw those criminal politicians off the radar. If you can’t advocate for Biafra’s self-determination, then you have no business representing our region in that contraption called Nigeria.”

IPOB also tasked its media structures to prepare, saying it aims “to replace all politicians who have been in the Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives for years without making any meaningful impact on our communities and towns.”

The viral post repeated the failures of the South-East politicians, citing “the extrajudicial deaths of our young people, and the numerous roadblocks on our roads as points of extortion” that lawmakers have ignored.

The statement concluded with a stark warning to political office holders: “If you can’t advocate for Biafra’s self-determination, then you have no business representing our region in that contraption called Nigeria,” adding, “Bear in mind if things come to worse in terms of Nigeria and dirty politics, IPOB can perform and do it better than anyone in that contraption called Nigeria.”

The latest statement follows IPOB’s January 1 New Year Address by the Head of its Directorate of States, Mazi Chika Edoziem, which also targeted South-East political leaders, particularly former Ebonyi State governor and current Minister of Works, David Umahi.

In that address, Edoziem dismissed claims by serving Igbo politicians as Igbo leadership, saying Umahi and others “have never done anything to merit the epithet ‘IGBO LEADERS.’”

He described them as “men who have neither honour nor integrity, men who conspired against the demand of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for the infrastructural development of Biafraland.”

Edoziem further stated that successive South-East governors played a role in the illegal proscription of IPOB by the Nigerian government.

“They, all the governors from David Umahi’s time to the present who are from the Igbo Nation of Biafraland are among those that emboldened the Nigerian government to ban a peaceful freedom movement, the IPOB, while hobnobbing with known terror groups such as Miyetti Allah, Fulani Herdsmen and Fulani foot soldiers in the Nigerian armed forces,” he said.

He also accused them of complicity in past military operations in the region that saw the extrajudicial killings of Igbo people especially the youths.

“They are the ones that brought in OPERATION PYTHON DANCE not once, not twice and not thrice to cut short the lives of our youths in cold blood and in peace time,” Edoziem stated.

Throwing down a public challenge, Edoziem said: “If David Umahi and all the governors of the Nation of Biafraland believe that they are indeed Igbo leaders and not just political jobbers, I throw a challenge today being the 1st day of January 2026 to them.”

He challenged them “with all the apparatus of governance and government at their disposal, to call out Biafrans to convince the world that they are truly Igbo leaders.”

He added that IPOB would respond in kind. “Afterwards IPOB will also call out Biafrans but with the understanding that there must be a level playing ground for their rally and for the IPOB rally so that the world will know actually who is in charge of Biafraland and particularly in charge in Igbo land.”

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from David Umahi, serving South-East governors, or members of the National Assembly to the allegations and challenges raised by IPOB.

The statements, however, have intensified political tension in the region and signaled a potentially charged year in South-East politics.
