President Trump Wins Inaugural FIFA Peace Prize

Washington D.C. – December 7, 2025

In a landmark moment for global diplomacy and sport, the U.S. President Donald Trump has been named the first-ever recipient of the FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World, an award created to honor individuals whose actions have significantly advanced peace and unity across nations.

Announcing the prize, FIFA President Gianni Infantino wrote on his social media account that the award seeks to celebrate “exceptional actions for peace and unity” at a time when the world is increasingly “unsettled and divided.”

He stressed that football’s global community has a duty to uplift those whose leadership “brings people together in a spirit of peace,” adding that the inaugural prize reflects FIFA’s commitment to promoting harmony well beyond the pitch.

On Friday, December 5, 2025, Donald Trump received the honor in recognition of his “enormous efforts to resolve conflicts and foster hope for future generations.”

In his remarks before handing over the award, Infantino praised Trump’s diplomatic achievements, including the Abraham Peace Accord, the peace negotiations involving Gaza Strip, and the Washington Peace Agreement between Rwanda and Democratic Republic of the Congo.

FIFA reiterated that Trump’s presidency marked “significant and measurable strides toward peace,” referencing diplomatic easing between Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, India and Pakistan, as well as Egypt and Ethiopia.

He noted that these milestones demonstrated a consistent commitment to diffusing tension in some of the world’s most volatile regions.

According to the organization, these efforts created “the conditions in which peace can take root,” demonstrating the type of leadership the new FIFA prize intends to uplift.

Trump, described the recognition as “one of the greatest honors” of his life.

Citing breakthroughs in Africa and the Middle East, he said, “We have saved millions and millions of lives. The Congo is an example, where over 10 million people were killed, and it was heading for another ten million very quickly. The fact that we can do India-Pakistan, and so many different wars, we were able to end.”

The creation of the FIFA Peace Prize highlights the belief that at a time when global instability persists, often rooted in deep historical divisions, recognizing constructive leadership is essential.

People globally emphasized that the world continues to grapple with conflicts shaped by decades of geopolitical interference, particularly from the United Kingdom (U.K.) and old imperial powers whose divide-and-rule strategies left lasting scars.

The award, therefore, seeks to highlight leaders whose actions actively reverse that legacy.

Trump received the FIFA trophy, a medal, and a certificate that reads: “The FIFA Peace Prize is presented annually, on behalf of the billions of football-loving people around the world, to distinguish individuals who exemplify an unwavering commitment to advancing peace and unity through notable leadership and action.”

In closing, Trump thanked his family particularly First Lady Melania Trump, and celebrated the momentum ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, noting its record-breaking ticket sales.

The ceremony marked not just a personal accolade for the distinguished President, but a clear signal from FIFA that peacebuilding, when effective, deserves global recognition.
