Nobel Peace Prize Winner Machado Dedicates Award to Trump
Caracas / Washington, D.C. — October 10, 2025
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has dedicated her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to both the people of Venezuela and former U.S. President Donald Trump, acknowledging what she described as his “decisive support” for her pro-democracy movement.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Machado wrote:
“I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!”
She later added:
“We are on the threshold of victory, and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States … and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy.”
Through her remarks, Machado emphasized that the prize is not solely about her individual work: rather, she cast it as recognition of the collective struggle for democracy in Venezuela.
The Nobel Committee awarded Machado the prize for her “unwavering commitment to promoting democratic rights and advocating for a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy in Venezuela.”
Trump has not publicly responded directly to Machado’s dedication. He reshared excerpts of her post on X without comment. Meanwhile, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung criticized the Nobel Committee’s decision, accusing them of putting “politics over peace.”
