Chinasa Nworu Slams President Tinubu Over ‘Hypocrisy’ on Christian Killings

Abuja, Nigeria – October 1, 2025

Mazi Chinasa Nworu, a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB’s Directorate of State (DOS), has sharply criticized Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of abandoning the principles he once championed.

In a statement shared on social media, Nworu recalled Tinubu’s 2014 remarks, where the then-opposition leader was “in the forefront condemning the killing of Nigerian and Biafran Christians.” Nworu argued that since becoming president, Tinubu has failed to uphold those values, suggesting that his silence in the face of worsening insecurity amounts to complicity.

“Never can a country succeed with leaders with deceptive and corrupt mindsets,” Nworu wrote, pointing to ongoing massacres of Christian worshippers across Nigeria. He argued that the president’s shift from strong condemnation to inaction reflects a dangerous hypocrisy that undermines both leadership credibility and citizens’ trust.

To underline his point, Nworu resurfaced a statement Tinubu made in 2014, when he was in opposition and a fierce critic of then-President Goodluck Jonathan. Tinubu had written:

“The killing of worshippers in churches and other innocent Nigerians is strongly condemnable. President Jonathan must rise to the occasion and protect our people. A government that fails to guarantee the safety of its citizens has lost its moral authority to lead.”

For Nworu, the contrast is glaring: the same Tinubu who once castigated Jonathan for failing to protect Christians is now accused of presiding over the same failures as president.

The IPOB official further contended that such selective morality weakens Nigeria’s capacity to confront extremist violence, leaving vulnerable communities at risk. He stressed that killings targeting Christians remain “strongly condemnable” and accused successive governments of failing to translate words into effective protection.

Nworu’s post has sparked debates on social media, where many users echoed concerns over the inconsistency of Nigeria’s leaders. Critics argue that Tinubu’s stance exemplifies a broader pattern in Nigerian politics, where fiery opposition rhetoric rarely translates into principled governance once power is attained.

As insecurity worsens across the country, Nworu’s comments highlight a growing reality that Nigeria’s leaders are trapped in cycles of opportunism, leaving ordinary citizens to pay the ultimate price.
