Gunmen Kill Police Orderly, Abduct Three Officers as Chinese Miner Escapes in Kwara

Kwara, Nigeria (September 25, 2025)

Armed gunmen launched a brazen attack on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in Agbonran, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving one police orderly dead and three officers abducted.

The deceased, Corporal Salisu Shamaki, had been assigned to safeguard a Chinese mining operation in the area. Amid the chaos, the Chinese national linked to the site narrowly escaped unharmed, while the abducted officers’ whereabouts remain unknown.

The attack is part of a worrying surge of violence by Fulani terrorists across the state. On the same day, another assault in Patigi Local Government Area claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and a police officer, with eight other individuals kidnapped, illustrating the expanding threat to civilians and security personnel alike.

In response, state authorities have mobilized security forces to the affected areas. The Nigerian Army’s Sobi Barracks in Ilorin has established a forward operational base aimed at curbing the activities of the bandits. Local vigilante groups, community leaders, and political figures are reportedly coordinating with security agencies to restore safety and provide protection to residents.

The series of attacks highlights the growing security challenges in Kwara State, particularly for law enforcement and foreign nationals operating in the region, even as communities grapple with fear and uncertainty following the attacks.
